Lighting suggestions for lamp

I am making a 12" bowl with a hemisphere lid. I am piercing the lid with holes and want ot put in the bowl a low heat yet bright light. Enough that it will create light to create beams from the holes. Any suggestions about what and where to buy...Thanks Ray

Look at LED's. They may not be as bright but they are tons cooler than any other light source short of having the light source located somewhere else with Fiber optics conducting light to the piece itself.

In fact, you could pierce small holes in the top, insert some short fiber-optic bundles, put a light source inside, and have a box that looks like the helmet on your avatar. :cool2:

LED's are very much directional so they may require a diffuser to disperse the light and I think they sell LED's with diffusers. Fluorescents are available online in some very low wattages and with different size sockets. Their light is not directional.

LEDs are also expensive (but last a really, really long time). CFLs have some heat, but mostly at the socket, not radiant. Depends on how deep your pockets are and how long you want to have them.
