Im new to AAW and just finished this lidded Vase today. Walnut and Peruvian Walnut. The lid is a bleached type of wood that was golden in color to begin with. It measures approx. 6.5" in diameter and 9.5" tall. I have only been turning for about two years, so any advise or comments are welcome.

Welcome to the AAW and to the forum, Larry. That is very nice work for somebody who has only been turning for two years. Especially beautiful finial work. It looks as though you may have watched on of Cindy Drozda's DVDs on finial design. If you like this type of lidded box, I would highly recommend taking a class from Cindy.
 
Beautiful shapes. Most new turners have trouble with that. You have a very good eye. If I were to critic it at all it would be about the finish. I'd like to see a smoother finish but then that might have been the look you were after which is fine. Glad your here and can't wait to see more.

Bill: Yes, I tend to conduct a bit of research before I do any work. It's a part of my charactor as I am an Engineer. I may spend more time conducting research versus turning at this point in time. I have viewed a few of Cindy Drozda's videos and would like to attend one of her classes.

Thanks for the input. I am still working on the finish but wanted to get a picture up on the site. I will finish this with a few coats of pore sealer and a few more coats of clear poly. Sanding each time with 600 and 1000 grit sand paper. It will take me another week to get the glass like finish I am looking for.
 
That's great. If you have trouble photographing that kind of finish I have a tutorial I made on the process I have gone through to shoot really glossy work. You probably won't go through the entire process but hopefully you can learn something that will help. I rarely do really glossy finishes anymore myself. I prefer what looks like a more natural thin looking gloss instead of the glass. It's much easier for me to do and sells just as well. However every now and then a piece calls for that.
