I will soon be receiving a Laguna LT14 SUV bandsaw. The dust collection port is stated to be 3 1/8". Does anyone have knowledge of an adaptor/reducer to attach this to a standard 4" dust collection system?

Sewer pipe and connectors

have worked for me. Cobbled together in different sizes. If you know someone with a lathe you can adjust the fit as needed 🙂 If two pieces are loose I use sheet metal screws and silicone sealant as a bedding. I even turned a wooden ring to fit inside to make a fit work. O rings might help too. The result is often heavier duty, and not prone to cracking as a lot of the dust collector fittings are. Just take your key measurements and wander the hardware store. Laguna fittings are often metric and you end up monkeying with them anyway. It's kind of fun.

I have the 16HD, and modified the dust port. First, I cut the metal cross hairs out. Even if you were stupid enough to put your hand in, with the saw running, you would have to try to get cut. Second, I took the plastic port off and replaced it with a 5 inch dust port. Don't know if this would apply to your saw or not.

Thank you to all that have made suggestions. I had hoped to have fitting prior to the saw arrival, but I guess I'll need to physically have the unit to decide on the best approach. You have given me multiple starting ideas.

John,
Have turned a couple dust port adapters from scrap wood. You can shape the I.D. as a converging or diverging nozzle (as needed), sand it a bit, and you are in business.

That's the key. If you're really lazy, bore a hole of the small size in a square which will fit into the standard 4" fitting. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=16967 Be sure and seal tight, because dust collection is always marginal on bandsaws anyway.

I use foam tape wrapped around the couplings. It provides a nice seal that holds well and is still easy to move the dust collector hose to other tools. I have also managed to greatly improve the collection of dust on my bandsaw by making some baffles with thin cardboard and using tape to hold one edge of the baffles in place. This improves air flow sufficiently that most of the sawdust gets captured. I still need to periodically clean the interior of the saw.
