Does anyone have or use a Kobra hollowing tool? I have seen the two videos on u tube but they are eight years old. Do they still make it and is it the same as in the video? They do not have a website and I find it difficult to get information about it. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Kobra

Mine is about a year and a half old. There have been a few improvements since the video was filmed. The main one at least for me is the change to an angled piece that goes between the ways and then the Kobra is turned to position the tapered pieces to allow it to be fastened. Sure is a beast and for what I do, up to about 12" deep there is NO vibration or chatter.

Richard, I have one you can see if you are ever traveling up north. I bought mine after Mark recommended it. Took a while to get it but Mark was right! It is a dream to use. Jerry and Al produce a quality product and stand behind it.

Kobra

Despite Mark's very kind assistance giving me a show and tell and two different contacts nos. for KOBRA, I have to report that the KOBRA outfit definitely does not have its act together: not respond to emails, no website, no answer to HOW long the waitlist is, no customer replies, and a very fat price for the hardware.

Another "Mark" here. Someday, we will all experience loss of family/friends and loss of joints enough to need surgical replacements. Kobra is two guys, retired or semi I believe, that created something that they saw was needed and that they believed in. They are not an outfit in the sense that you think. Now if it were a major manufacturer, no mercy. But show some patience in this case. They are not becoming rich w/ this, despite what you would characterize a fat price. Research some local machine shop work and you will know what I mean. If they cannot continue as is, it is my belief that they will pass on the production to others. The product seems too good to pass into the void.

I have also contacted them. They responded. I am on the "waiting list". I don't know how long it will take. The beauty of the market is that it all works out in the end-- don't like the price or the service, go elswhere.

Other Mark, I'm pretty sure a little communication is all Brad was looking for. I am surprised with your bold comment that "If they cannot continue as is, it is my belief that they will pass on the production to others." Pass it on? Do you have some insight there? I heard a number quoted years ago on what they wanted to sell the design and rights of manufacturer for. I would not interpret that as "pass it on." Wonderful product, nice guys, and we should all understand it's a couple of old 😉 guys in a shop. Frustration should be anticipated by some when a great product has such limited availability.

Kobra Hollowing System

Just to give you all a bit of insight ... re: lack of responsiveness and the "wait list". I know both parties involved in J&A Engineering. The J just had his knees replaced so he is mostly involved in healing and rehab.

The A in JA just lost his wife very unexpectedly this spring. So a little slack getting cut would be nice for both of these guys.

If you want the best deep hollowing system out there, just be patient. If you want a hollowing system NOW and can't wait, then you'll have to settle for lesser quality.

Just my nickel's worth (2 cents adjusted for inflation).
