Hi everyone and thanks for having me on this awesome forum. I've been a long time lurker but wanted to get a little more involved now that I'm spending more time on my lathe. Thank you to all the active members on the site - much of your work is inspirational.
I've been a woodworker much longer than a turner...for about two decades, I would tell my wife that I'd like to add a lathe to the shop in order to turn legs and the like for my furniture. At one point I decided that bandsaws, bowsaws and spokeshaves just weren't doing it for me any more and I added a full size lathe. Although I initially wanted to turn table legs, my interests were soon peaked by bowl turning and I found Stuart Batty's yt demo. I watched and read all I could from him which acutally led me a completely different direction. I learned that the most important thing in actually making successful cuts was bevel control so I researched the most non-forgiving took when it comes to bevel control, which led me to the skew. I now found myself watching Alan Lacer's material over and over, then Alan Batty, the Steve Jones, etc. This has been an awesome journey thus far and I cant wait to take the next steps, and the next and the next.
Here are a few examples of my work (a bowl, a candy dish and some tool handles I made) along with a link to my YT channel where I use a skew to make Christmas tree ornaments. Thanks for looking!
