Our club (Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois (IKI)) recently had John Jordan as a demonstrator. It was an outstanding demonstration as John covered everything from turning a hollow form to carving. I know John has many accolades, but to see his in-process and finished pieces was a great experience along with learning from his woodturning expertise. I can say all those in attendance were impress and took away valuable knowledge. Thank you, John Jordan.

William, I recently watched one of his videos on aesthetics and properties of wood and I learned more from it than I have ever learned from an instructors DVD. Maybe it was his delivery but it has stuck for me and I have been using his teachings on choosing the wood and the blanks selected from the wood ever since. Good stuff. The video was only about wood selection and not carving or texturing. I hope one day I can attend a class or at least have a few minutes to speak with him and ask questions. Big B

John is a terrific demonstrator and teacher.
I think John was the first professional demonstrator I ever saw when I was assigned as his room assistant first rotation for a mini symposium our club ( mostly Frank amigo & Joe Dickey) organized at MD Hall in 1994.
Other demonstrators were Palmer Sharpless, David Ellsworth, Johannes Michelson, Stoney Lamar.
No cameras - we all just stood around the lathe and watched John do his majic. John also does demos at Florida clubs every once in a while. Well worth me driving to Olando or Sarasota

@Brian Longshore, John often attends the Florida symposium as a vendor and always attends the AAW symposium as a vendor. It is easy to grab a few minutes with him and he has a nice line of tools too.

Palmer was a wonderful turner and teacher. I learned a lot from him.
I did not get to know Palmer much beyond saying hello.
I did my first demo at the AAW in 2000 on teaching kids to turn.
I was nervous and anxious. Palmer was in the front row with Judy Ditmer and the Amigos, John Jordan was standing in the back.
Those friendly faces made it go well.

Small world full of really nice people

That's something that's always impressed me with woodturners. For the most part, they're very open, friendly, and willing to share.
I used to go to the Bucks Woodturners, and Palmer came to the NJ Woodturners multiple times.
And I've met Judy several time, too. Another nice person.

My first AAW demo was on photography and when I walked in the room David Ellsworth was the first person in. I was nervous to begin with and seeing David really made me sweat. I was having to change the video over and wasn't sure how to do it on that system. David stepped right up and helped. Took away all of my anxiety. I won't say every turner is good but 99% of them are fantastic.

I was at the Arrowmont symposium years ago. While I was eating lunch, David sat down at my table. He probably doesn't remember, but we had a good conversation, about a lot of subjects. I was impressed that a turning god like him would interact with us average people. lol
