I need a capacitor for my Jet mini-lathe, JML 1014. Does anyone know where I can order one, an email address or phone number? I don't have my owner's manual so can't give a part number. Thanks, Larry G. :

From another thread, once you get the number, you are probably better off ordering it directly form Jet so that it matches exactly. Another turner had big problems trying to match up equivalent electrical parts.

That would be me...

I finally CALLED them because they charge more shipping ($19.00) for the dang thing than it's worth if you order it online....

Go figure. Most of the time things are cheaper online.

Anyway the part is about $12-13 and shipping is around $5.00 if you call them and order it.

No problem Jim,

Just hope someone can learn from my trials (or stupidity, take yer pick!).

😛

At any rate, Jet (or whoever they are now) doesn't make it easy to find the part either.

If you want to look at this junk online start at www.WMHtoolgroup.com and choose the Jet tool group.

Then choose the "shop for parts" option.

When you see the Advanced search box choose stock number and type in "JML" (for Jet Mini Lathe) and then go to the third page of parts that come up. Go to the bottom of the page and you'll see the capacitor (JML-35-1) there for $11.45

Call Jet and ask them to ship it to you.

Aftermarket Cap.

Find a place that sells elect. motor parts, and buy a start/run capacitor, 25uf, 370 volts. You will need to mount the capacitor under the lathe bed somewhere and insolate it too [not on the motor, as it will not fit there]. The original capacitor on the motor is no good, and if your on/off switch is also bad, and rapidly turns the motor on and off many cycles, quickly...your new Jet capacitor will be toast again too.

Here's the thread where I blunder all around the topic...

Actually I think the thing is a start/run 25uf, 250VAC. At least that's what the guys at Jet said, and the sticker on the old one verifies....

If you can find a start/run capacitor more power to ya. (I couldn't) But for the money, I'd just bypass all the hassle and get one from Jet.

Search for capacitor successful

Thanks for all the help with websites. I have ordered the capacitor. Thanks, Underdog--you were right about calling and saving on shipping. The capacitor was $11.45 and shipping was $5.48. Larry G.

Hey Larry,

Let me know how it turns out after you replace the capacitor.

The one I replaced worked pretty well, but the motor kinda starts up slow now. It seems to run fine with low amp draw, and doesn't get hot, but it's not quite as perky as the new Jet I bought recently.

I don't know whether that's because I replaced the old shielded bearings with rubber sealed bearings or because some damage was done to the motor windings... 😕

Capacitor on back order

The capacitor is on back order. Won't have it until sometime in January. As soon as I get it running I'll let you know how I made out. For now I have plenty to keep me busy. Larry G.
