Jet Lathe Bed Extension Question

I called Jet (wmh) today and asked about a bed extension for my Jet 1642 EVS lathe. They told me that I could order it from them or from one of their distributors. They have a 20" extension and a 57" extension available and comes with an additional leg similar to the lathe.

From Jet -20" - $316.00 plus $34.00 shipping----57" - $808.00 plus shipping
Southern Tool - 20" - $237 plus shipping -----57" - $538.00 plus shipping
Woodworker.com 20" - $381 plus shp ----57" - $583.00

Anybody know of a cheaper source ? and anybody tell me how well the extension work ?............Thanks Dan

the 57 inch extension with leg is very sturdy, oneway makes a faceplate that can be attached to the jet revolving center, or you can just use the rovolving center

your project must fit the use of the extension and the limitations of your swing over bed
 
Equipment Sales and Surplus is a good place to contact - they sell mostly just the machines of Jet.......I spoke with them today and they may have one and will get back with me on the price tomm or next day........it would be the 57" but still not sure if it will be to big and to hard to get in and out of the garage..........im going to have to think this thru...........but thanks alot for the info
 
Dan Check with www.toolnut.com That's where I bought my Powermatic and the extension. I don't own the jet but the extension works great on my powermatic. I mounted it on the motor end of my bed. That way when I don't need it it's kind of stored under the motor and doesn't take up much more room. When I need it I just slide the headstock out to the end of the extension.
