Hi everyone,
This a bit delayed, but here we are. Let's make this a simple challenge. Turn something with a thin stem (playing loose with the definition, and opening this to finials as well)! Simple...maybe deceptively simple. There are a lot of ways to approach this challenge: goblet, ornament, flower, embellished, natural, green wood, seasoned wood, etc... Here are a few images to inspire your creations (Dave Landers, Ashley Harwood, Ron Campbell, respectively):
This should be a fun challenge: push yourself out of the comfort zone and make this a personal challenge. Here are the rules, as determined by AAW Forum legal counsel Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe:

This should be a fun challenge: push yourself out of the comfort zone and make this a personal challenge. Here are the rules, as determined by AAW Forum legal counsel Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe:
- Completed piece must have a thin stem or finial.
- Final dimensions of the piece must be posted with the photograph, including total length of piece, and diameter of thinnest section.
- Entries must be posted in this thread by 11:59 pm Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on January 28, 2025.
- As always, this is a turning contest, not a "moldy oldie" photo contest, so in fairness to everybody, make sure your work is something you have made since this challenge was issued on January 13, 2025.
- You may not post any photos of your entry in this month’s challenge in any other thread or in the gallery until the voting has ended and a winner has been declared.
- Voting will take place from January 29, 2025, through 11:59 pm UTC on February 1, 2025.
- Solicitation of votes will result in disqualification.
- The winner might have to pass a lie detector test before collecting the grand prize of a dogleg high-carbon continental gouge. Good luck, have fun, make shavings, and let the chips fall where they may!!
