Instant Gallery purses, camera bags and backpacks

I just sent an e-mail to the Board re: Instant Gallery Security. Here is a copy:

Dear AAW Board,

I am curious to know if there has been an update to the security system in place for the Instant Gallery. A system similar to a “coat check†with ticket stub comes to my mind for all those purses, camera bags and backpacks. I was very nervous leaving my camera bag with extra lens and external flash for my digital SLR camera. I was also fortunate in that I had a friend at the Instant Gallery check-in desk and she watched my camera bag on several occasions in Richmond. Unfortunately, I won't have the luxury of private security this year.

As most of you may already know, there was a purse stolen from the Instant Gallery last year in Richmond.

Please let me know the procedure that will be in place for the upcoming Symposium.

Bob, I just sent you an email, but I'll repeat the information here for others.

Visitors to the Instant Gallery will be allowed to keep their personal belongings in their possession. Of course this will require a little extra caution on the part of all attendees.

Which I assume means....You broke it, You bought it😀

It also means, If you steal it, don't get caught.

I am assuming that the "no bags" rule was there because things had been disappearing at previous galleries. Small turnings have a habit of doing that.

I had heard the exact same thing happened a few Symposiums back.

I know Anthony Harris 'lost' at least one of his sphere boxes in Richmond.
A threaded banksia pod box and perhaps one other.

I also think that beyond that, there needs to be some form of crowd control, it can get very busy in the gallery. At Louisville 2006 I was across the gallery when a person in a motorized wheel chair/scooter caught on a table cloth and pulled a few of the displayed items down, breaking one... who do you Blaine for that?😕 Do you think the owner of the piece was that understanding? The gallery needs some better thought for crowd control and I hope that has happened.

I did not know that about Anthony's box. I was on the same table with him and someone stole my form fitted packing container for my IG pieces. I wonder if Anthony's box traveled home in my packing box?
