Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and am looking forward to learning as much as I can from it. To start off, I am no stranger to wood. I have a portable sawmill and cut a variety of Northern NewEngland Hardwoods. I have a vast collection of cherry and maple burls, Spalted woods, (Sugar Maple, Yellow Birch etc.,) This time of year is very slow for me, and I need a Hobby/potential offset income. I have a small Ridgid lathe and would like very much to get into the art of woodturning.
I guess I'll cut to chase. I am looking for a beginners book of Bowl Turning. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bill Grumbine has produced a new DVD "Turned Bowls Made Easy" It is great and I think just what you need. In Canada you can get it at Woodchuckers of Toronto but I am not sure where to get it in the US but it shouldnt be hard to find.
Good luck and welcom to this great craft.

Hi, Back.

I'm in Mass and would happilly mail you some books and any danged thing else you want in exchange for wood. Burls are gold for turning so that makes you a very attractive person (sorry, already married or I'd consider proposing). I'd even go so far as to say "come on down" and I'll do some basic instruction with ya.

The other alternative is to hook up with one of the Maine turning clubs and take advantage of the same offers that will come flowing from them, from a much closer location.

Just remember, I offered first and I'm less likely to make midnight raids on your burl pile than the local guys are.

Pick me, pick me!
