... this weekend and I wonder of you could share with me:

Places to go,

People to see,

Things to do.

I will be in North Dallas, any turning related stores in the area?

Thanks,

Clem

I don't know about turning related, but there's a Woodcraft in Addison, Curly Woods in McKinney.

Nasher sculpture garden downtown Dallas, some good museums. Good music, food and beverage.
What did you have in mind?

Dallas Visit

Steve,

I'm in Dallas to visit an old frined of mine and, after I set up the trip, I came across a nearly new Powermatic 3520A in Austin that I bought. I will be traveling between the two places and visiting new turning friends while there.

I live in the metropolotin area of Boondocks, Arkansas. There is NO availability of anything turning related in any store. I guess I'm looking for books, accessories and such for turning.

I will probably check out the two you mentioned.

Thanks,

Clem

Yes, Dave that is the one.

I had seen it on the classifieds page and a while later you suggested to him to post it on the turning site.

I hesitated for a while because I had recently bought a Jet 1442 that I will be picking up in NJ in May. Now I own 4 lathes and only two in my shop.

I will get to Curly Woods if time allows.

Clem,

When in Austin, you aught to go by our Fearless Moderator's [Jeff] house and trade him some prime Osage Orange for a chunk of his latest score. That way when you get home you can explain to your wife how you got the new lathe and a nice piece of ash all in the same trip!! 😀 😀

You're sharp Mark!

I have already tried to give some of the O-O to Jeff but he doesn't want to turn wood that is dry already, it's like granite.

He's only 10 miles from where I'm getting the lathe so I will be able to meet him while I'm there. I have to take my pickup and not the land yacht 😀

Ah-hem,

Would that be some of the same "granite" you were thinking of swapping for some of my primo gnarled walnut next month? 🙄 😉

Ah-hem

That's the stuff.

I'm going to see if 24 inch wood, out in the open but under cover, really is dry. I thought 1 inch per year for the wood to dry. I'll try some when I get the big baby home next week. It's still heavier than I can lift. Maybe when I cut it up into blanks I'll find out that Jeff is right and it will be very hard.
