Much like my cigar smoking/collecting and motorcycling, woodturning is in my blood. I was at my brother's for lunch this noontime and noticed this smallish birch trunk he had cut down. Shame I was on the bike! But I got more than half of it ;-)

My saddlebags aren't half as big as yours.......but, I'd find some rope, if I had to!!!!!!

LOL

SWMBO and I are selling on the waterfront and having a fun(d) day chatting, including with a young couple who really liked the most expensive and handsome piece I had. I was on ambulance pager, and got called away. Ended up with a staibilization local and transfer to Enormous General, so I was gone over two hours. The bowl was gone when I returned.

"That couple you were talking to when you got paged came back. She asked if it was OK to take a picture of the bowl, and I said yes. They came back a half hour later and bought it. Asked me to double wrap and cover in plastic, because they had to get it back to Toronto on the motorcycle."

Hope you get something nice out of your birch, and they enjoy the bowl today as much as I enjoy the memory.

Thanks...

The bike is an '03 Valkyrie and she carried me coast to coast summer '06, a very road worthy ride. I also attend Rolling Thunder in DC every Memorial Day. My father, myself, and my son are vets; for all the vets.

I turned 4 5-6"dia bowls from slices so far. One split dead in half as I got it kinda thin, the wood is quite green still. I glued it back together and let it sit, it was a clean split. This is the first green wood I've turned and can you ever hog that stuff off with a bowl gouge 🙂
