I wonder if anyone has tried either one of the new Grizzly chucks? They look rather impressive in the catalog picture (included in the hyperlink). The price is right too. $39.95 for the tommy bar style, and $89.95 for the 4 inch T-handle chuck. I was thinking that they might make a good utility chuck for turning boxes or even for homemade jaws to turn bowl bottoms, etc.

What do you guys think?

funny thing about that 89$ chuck is that people (on another forum ) have mounted either novas or vicmarks jaws on it and they fit perfectly..

might be a good inexpensive substitute to them..

just a thought

Dr. Dewey,

I'm not quite sure I understand your question, but no, I am not an "auto ad thing"

I know you get what you pay for but... They sure are a lot cheaper than some of the others. It might be worth trying. At least for a spare chuck

Chucks

I chosse the 39.95 to save money and get started. I belive i learned my frist lesson! Buy the the Good quaility the frist time - These chucks are slopply don't grip well. so the next tool I bought was a Talon Chuck. The 39.95 plus shipping would have been better spent on a carbon steel scraper.

The $89 is a exact copy of the Vicmark chuck. They even copied their manual and whited out "vicmark". The machined edges are very sharp (ouch). There is more slop in the mechanism than my Vicmark. I got it for my wife's lathe.
