How many of you are at large members?

Hah! I read this thinking why does he want to know how many of us are large members! I see lots of turning muscles wherever I go. 😀 I need another cup of coffee.

Bill,
I edited out the following before posting: "BTW at large has nothing to do with the size of your turning muscle." I knew, I just knew somebody would read that wrong and I should have left it in the original post.

This is my club.

Not a member of a club that meets so this forum is my club. There are clubs in northern Illinois but all about 1 1/2 hour drive. 3 hour round trip on a week night sounds like work not fun.

I'm not a club member either. I tried to contact area club for three months with no luck. They must have changed the phone number and email.

not a member, no local club

Trying to become smaller, but...

...am currently "at large."

It's over 200 miles, round trip, to the meeting place and early visits indicated new members weren't wanted by the, then, leadership.

Until last night I was as big as Bill G. but now I am normal size. I attended the Woodturners of Olympia club meeting last night and decided to join. Their meeting place is about 1:15 drive form me but it beats the traffic in Portland to the South.

I gave an alcohol drying presentation to the club in January. They were such a nice group that I decided to drop anchor there. At least half a dozen people mentioned that they used the alcohol drying process so I figured I could get along with the group.

I doubt I will make a lot of meeting because of the drive and my schedule but it is nice to be able to say I am not a drifter any more.

Are those of us with outstanding warrants considered at large too? <grin>

Seriously....Am a local club member wanna be who has yet to make a meeting because of my travel schedule. The local club very kindly keeps telling me when and where they are. One day I will actually be here for a meeting and people will faint when I show up. It seems like an excellent club too. Good folks, and very active. Someday.........

I would like to invite anyone interested in turning to one of our meetings. The average age is close to 70 and most of us do not turn anymore but we like to get together and eat donuts and drink coffee the second Saturday of the month. The up side is we are such a small group now we can meet in our garages. The down sides are too long to go into. I wish I could have been a member ten years ago. I guess then they had demos. and everything.

to Mark Mandell

did you go to iowa state, gdi orginated there

sadly enough...

I have been at large for about 2 years now, the really sad part is I have 4-5 really good clubs (including one of if not the largest club in AAW) within 30 minutes to an hour of my house. Schedule and such have limited me from actually attending.
