WELCOME ABOARD STEVE ! ! !

Good to have you on the Forum! Don't be afraid to jump-in here any time the mood strikes you!

Tell us a bit about yourself... Where in England are you? (I don't know the Lake District very well...) What kind of turning do you do? On what lathe? How long have you been turning, favorite projects, etc. (I was about to ask "What's your favorite real ale?", but that's just an indication of how much I miss visiting England...sorry!)

Hope to hear from you again!

Cheers,

Rob Wallace

Hi Rob, Charlie & Peter
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Rob, to answer some of your questions;-
I live on the fringe of The Lake District in Cumbria about 10 miles from the Scottish border.
I started turning about 8 years ago for about 2 years and gave up for various reasons. After moving house (again!!!) I am now in the process of setting up my lathe, its been too long.
I mainly do faceplate turning with occasional between centres work. My best project to date has been a tazza (shallow bowl with stem) but I aim to be more adventurous this time around.
My lathe is a Nova 3000 8 speed belt, 16" swing, 24" between centres which I have found to be great value. It is mounted on a homemade bench with over 2cwt of ballast in a false bottom to keep it nice and sturdy.
Now the serious stuff. My favourite beer is called Old Smoothy, a keg bitter brewed by Jennings in Cockermouth.
I`d like to see some examples of your work and setups if you have the pics.
Hope you are all well
Kind Regards
Steve

Steve Welcome to our group. I have been a long time subscriber to Woodturning and have written several articles for the magazine. I really enjoyed meeting Mark Baker when he was over here. It's really interesting to see the kind of work produced over there and to get a perspective on how you all turn.
I would love to visit your country. Maybe you can visit here. You could come down south and learn to speak English the correct way, with a southern drawl. 🙂
