Here's how slow I am.

Ever since I learned of this year's theme for the exhibit at the Kansas City Symposium, I've been wondering where the heck they came up with that idea. Of all of the possible themes, why OZ? Such a difficult concept to come up with a piece that ties in and isn't so obvious. Why Oz? Never did figure it out, till about 5 minutes ago, even though I spent months working on an entry. (fingers crossed). It hit me like a ton of bricks....

Hello? DOH! The symposium is in KANSAS! As in "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Toto".

I never said I was smart, just good looking.

Hey Mike!

That ton of bricks that just hit you - Were they Yellow Bricks, per chance????????????????? :cool2: 😛 😉 😀

What about next year?

You're really going to struggle next year with the show in Louisville and the theme is Batter Up. I mean, L'Ville isn't Cooperstown, or even Cincinnati. I doubt if Babe Ruth, Henry Aaron or Barry Bonds ever even visited there, let alone played there. Isn't this where Muhammad Ali is from? Why not boxing? Batter Up? Maybe it has to do with all the pancakes they eat there . . .

Huh? I thought "step up to the plate" was about dinnerware! I had my pattern picked out and everything...back to the drawing board.

Tell me it's not true!!

I just knew it would be a racehorse/Derby theme. Had my plans all laid out!!

They can't do this to me!!!!!!!!

Wilford

I am willing to bet that Ruth, Aaron and many others have been to Louisville to get fitted properly for their sluggin' equipment.

Come On Turners! Aren't Baseball Bats just large Spindles that are turned????

Can't believe you guys didn't get that one?? Was Mark the only one on the right side of the ASH Tree to get that one ( I think Mike S. got it too with the Batter Up! for hitting the ball, etc.)?????

One of the very best wooden bats is a Louisville Slugger!!!!!

Maybe if it were held in Easton PA people would have guessed Baseball Bats, since most of the new ones are aluminum - But hey, I guess I'm just an old-timer or Major Leager!

Done

Got my piece all done for the juried show. Yup.

One piece of select ash turned 4 foot long by 6" thick.

Title?

"Louieville Steroid" of course

😀 😀

Actually Eemer, if it were held in Easton PA, the first thing I would have thought of was arrow shafts... LOL... Easton has been making aluminum shafting for more years than I can remember...
But since I now only hunt with a longbow or recurve, I am back to wood shafts... MMMM never turned my own shafts... MMMMMMMM

Louisville Slugger factory

is about a block away from the Galt House, site of the 2006 Symposium. There is a wooden(looking)bat about 100' tall in front of the Slugger factory, and a tour thru should be on your agenda!

100' Slugger?

Aw, Jeez, Jamie, you tellin' me somebody took my idea before I even thought of it?
[Dang, all the Good Shapes is already taken . . . . .]

Oh, man, this conversation has gotten toooooo deep for me. All that wasted mind-output and not a single reference to The World Champions Boston Red Sox!
My father in law waited 85 years and could not last the last year. -- wonder if he knows- - Phil

I'm sure he is in heaven and wouldn't know that hell froze over last fall!

Hey Tom,

You'll surely need a steady rest for that - I believe the indians used Osage Orange for theit bows, but what was used for the shafts???

And to make matters even more confusing ... Louisville Sluggers are made in Indiana, across the river from Louisville
