THANK YOU! Spindle 1X8 Chuck 1 1/4X8

I got what I wanted from Craft Supply, though not the teknatool part suggested. I'm just doing demos once in a while, and it will be easier over the long term to use the adapter (I hope). Thank you all for your suggestions and information.

I have a mustard monster and a Delta Midi, I need to use a chuck, every once in a while on my midi and I'm tired of changing the fitting on the Oneway Talon. I'm not finding an adapter that goes from smaller to larger. Anyone know where I can get one?

I believe that Craft Supplies carrys them. I had one and gave it away. You end up having the chuck sticking out another 1 1/2 inch or so, and on the bigger lathe, this leads to more vibration. Having 2 inserts is better, though a bit of a hastle changing, or get another chuck.

There is always the possibility of getting a Stronghold for the monster and using the talon on the smaller lathe.

You can get the spindle adapter you need at Packard for around $50. Or you could buy a oneway chuck body (the non-keyed version) for around $100. The non-keyed version is a little less convenient than the talon, but it doesn't sound like you are using it all that often. You could use the insert and talon jaws you already have.

George,

Its not what you asked but after changing inserts around, what seemed like forever, I broke down and bought a second Talon body. If you wait until one of the many suppliers, Craft Supply, Packard, Rockler, Woodcraft, etc., have a sale or one of those 20 or 25% coupons it is a bit easier.

Too much runout with an adapter....

I have also tried the use of spindle adapters with my Vicmarc Chucks (both the 100 and 120), and even though it works, I find that I still get too much run-out and some eccentricity at the business-end/jaws of the chuck (....and I've tried three different 1"-8 to 1-1/4"-8 adapters). Nothing beats having the correct chuck insert for each spindle size, and just swap these out when moving the chuck between different spindle sizes. I think this works best, at least from my experience.
