I have a Jet woodworking lathe, the 1642 EVS 1.5 HP. I had a power surge at the shop and bruned out what Jet calls the inverter or the AC motor Drive manufactured by Delta. I purchased a new one that is not yet programmed for this lathe. I need to know what the parameter settings should be so if someone has this lathe and can scroll through their parameter settings and let me know, I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Tom,

First, welcome to the forum.

Few if any of us ordinary Jet owners have a clue how to program the Delta VFD. I think the manual is available on line but doubt if that will be much help with the "factory" settings. Only idea I have is to try to get a Jet tech rep to walk you through the procedure by phone. Maybe someone who can help will jump in here.

tom This may not be of much help. There are an awful lot of choices for settings when you look at the manual for the controller. I'm not an electronics person and could not even begin to decipher most of them. I installed 2 different brand controllers on previous lathes and the only 2 settings I messed with were what I call electronic braking and ramp up.
There were actually 3 different controls for what sounded to me like electronic braking. I don't remember what they were all called. I played with the settings and all seemed to do the same thing so I picked a number that seemed to slow the machine about right and left it.
What I call ramp up speed which is the speed it takes for the lathe to come up to full speed is also adjustable. I simply tried out a few settings (on mine is was 1 through 10) until I found one that worked about right.
I left all the other settings as it came from the factory because I simply didn't know what they do.

Thanks, I got the settings from Jet. There were about a dozen settings that were not the default settings. Now it works like new. Good to have the lathe back on line.

With my Robust, with help from Brent English, I did a few extra things. There were adjustments for more torque, slower minimum speeds before the lathe shuts off, and higher speed ranges. My mid range speeds were up to about 1700 rpm, and now it goes up to 2200 or so. This is perfect for 3 to 4 inch bowls, and only a bit slow for spindles. You do need to be an electrical engineer to be able to read the manuals that come with the inverters. I got the one to my old PM, and couldn't figure anything out.

Glad you got it working Tom. I found the guys over at owwm to be instrumental to understanding the configuration of VFD's if you find yourself in this situation again. Several of them have extensive experience with the devices and can provide guidance on what to tweak, what not to tweak given the plethora of 3ph motors on old machines.
