I am now in the need for a resporator to use while in the shop. I looked a the one Rockler sells for $82. and the reviews look good also. Any help would be great. Most work with glasses Thanks

You might want to check out the North 7700 series respirator. According to what the specs and the salesman told me several years ago the protection with the dust filters was as good as any of the expensive battery operated respirators. The pancake dust filters make wearing a face shield no problem. I like it also because the exhalation vent is on the bottom so your glasses won't fog up. I have used one since 1985 in the sawmill and now I use one in the shop.

I don't know what Rockler sells for a respirator other than I have seen various dust masks in their store and the Triton which is much more expensive than $82. Can you either describe the respirator or provide a link?

For the most part, reviews are useful only for describing some of the features. Much of the same information can typically be found in the advertising literature. User reviews are only anecdotal and are not a qualified indication of how well the filter performs. Of greater importance to me would be things like the certification level for dust protection and, if there is a face shield, is it certified to meet the Z87 standard for face protection. If it is, the transparent shield will carry the Z87 + XXXX marking (where XXXX indicates the applicable revision year).

From I have heard firsthand from Triton users is that it is not very comfortable and does not have sufficient air flow for the hot humid climate here in Texas. Unless they have made some upgrades in the past couple years, the filter in the Triton has not gone through certification testing to demonstrate that it provides any particular level of respiratory protection.

(I didn't know either, so I took a look)

It doesn't state it is HEPA (or anything else), if it would take a 3M cartridge it could be made that way I suppose.

After looking at it and the North passive respirator that Barbara recommended, I would go with the North 7700.

It occurred to me that woodturners are a interesting breed -- we spend lots of money on stuff to make dust and then we spend some more money on stuff to get rid of the dust that we paid money to generate.

And the point being, that we spend money🙄 sometimes more than we make.😱

I wonder how big an entity a "qualified buyer" must represent?

I've done a lot of comparing and found the TOTOBOBO dust mast suites me better than most others although I have never tried an positive pressure face shield type.
You can find specs on the TOTOBOBO as well as comments and any other info you mite want here: http://totobobo.com/index.html

Vince Welch sells the mask in the US and can be found here:

Bruce get what ever you will use. I think sometimes in our quest for the best for the least green, we lose site of the fact that while making a "really" informed decision you are not using anything. I use the Dust Bee Gone when I’m on the back porch power carving and love it. However, when I am turning wood my wife brings back from S. America, I use my 3M PAPR unit. None of them do any good if you’re not wearing them. 3M makes a great disposable filter 8211 N95 that means it meets NIOSH N95 standards and is probably better then the Dust Be Gone, but I do not like putting the N95 on and off. I have two boxes of them and even keep them in my demo toolbox. But, I still use the DBG as its more comfortable and easy to use. MTCW

thank for all the help

I did not like that this unit was notrated and that is why I post this. Love the idea we pay to make dust and pay to get ride of it. Barbara I will call the number you put up. Thanks to all
