I recently built an segmented urn, and a couple of the rings I made were with wood I had purchased at Rockler on sale and it was sold to me as walnut--but I'm confident it was something else--I will try and upload a picture of the urn so you could look at the bottom two darker wood rings and see if you could help me identify it, I really like it whatever it is!

The first three rings from the base going up are the ones in question--I really like the colors that pop up in the third ring--they have a lot of red in the segments there. The last four rings going on up I know are actually walnut!!

Thanks Robo, I didn't notice the odor in that wood--or the absence of one either--I am decent about wearing respiration guard, so I 'MAY' have been wearing one when I turned/cut those rings.....

Thanks Richard, it could be any on those woods, it was in the sale bin at Rockler. Mexican Royal Ebony sounds like a good guess!
