Hello,

My name is Steven Jones and i have been an active wood worker for several years now. After the man that got me into wood turning passed away not to long ago, it reminded me to get back in to AAW.

Gorden Barrett (Boise Idaho) really was the first to get me started and i want to be able to pass on my knowledge to others like he did. I'm at that age where i should be playing video games but have no desire and want to carry on the tradition of working with my hands.

Cant wait to dive in and continue learning.

Welcome Aboard!

Hello Steven!

Welcome to the group! You have come to the right place - there's lots of great woodturners here who freely exchange ideas and provide answers to questions posed by other turners. We're looking forward to your participation.

If the 'Orlando' in your location means Orlando, Florida, your return to woodturning is particularly timely because the AAW International Symposium for 2013 is being held in Tampa, which is essentially in your back yard. If you want TOTAL IMMERSION in woodturning for three days, plan on attending the AAW Symposium on June 28, 29, and 30!!! There will be dozens of world-class turners, more demonstrations than you could possibly attend, a wonderful Instant Gallery of thousands of woodturned items, and what can likely be billed as the 'World's Best Trade Show' of tools and supplies related to woodturning. It is THE premier meeting of woodturners from all over, with demonstrations and discussions on all aspects of woodturning, woodturned art forms, techniques, and pretty much anything else related to turning wood on a lathe. You will have many opportunities to meet many other turners, see demonstrations by many professional and experienced turners, and to empty your wallet to bring home the best woodturning tools, accessories, supplies, fantastic wood, and other items available for woodturning. In general, it is a great time!

Have a look at the following link for more information on the 2013 AAW Symposium: http://www.woodturner.org/sym/sym2013/index.htm

I hope to see you there and meet in person!

Steven,

1. Central Florida Woodturners have a great group that meets in the woodcraft in fern park(north Orlando 17-92) third Thursday. I will be there April 18 to making some chips.

Gene Gross, an excellent teacher, class is probably filled but sometimes people have to drop out. it would be a great opportunity. they will have more classes.

Cant wait

Hockenbery,

When i first moved to FL in 2001 i was apart of the turning group at the Wood craft on 436 before it moved. Between getting married and work blah blah blah, i couldn't go anymore but now i have more time and what to get back into the group of great guys. I will try and make it to the meeting when you are there. Hope to see you soon.

Steven,
The hands on with Gene Gross is Saturday, March 2, it will be held at a members shop. If you want additional information send me a pm, I'm one of the club officers. There is no cost for this event, Gene did send a note about bringing some equipment with you, I'll give you that information as well. Let me know as I'll let the guys know too expect you. We also have a Wednesday night group that meets every Wednesday night out in Sorrento, usually 15 - 20 folks (male and female) ranging in age from 9 to well... really old. We have 6 lathes and sometimes we put a big chunck on a lathe and everyone takes a turn.
