I have a wolverine sharpering system with a 8" delta grinder and am replaceing the grinding wheels. I was wondering what the differance between white, pink and white grinding wheels.

Oneway grinding wheels

River Rat,

Since you are replacing the wheels, do yourself a favor and get new wheels from Oneway. Apparently some of the 2030 and 2060 steels are so hard that most wheels do not cut them very well. I can't remember where I saw it, but there was a comment about how some of the newer wheels will cut these steels and leave a sharp edge, and that Oneway wheels are in this group. Also, the Oneway wheels are a better deal than some others.

I bought a pair of Oneway wheels a year and a half ago and will go back for another set when it is time to replace them. I won't even consider option B.

No, I am not a salesperson for anyone. 😀

The difference in the wheels themselves is the compound used to make them. The different compounds are designed with different types of metals in mind. As you grind they are designed to fracture the particles (of the wheel) away at different rates in order to keep the wheels cleaner (friability). The gray wheels are designed for higher speed grinding and greater metal removal at the sacrafice of dirtier wheels. Less precision if you will. (This is the SHORT explanation)

For what woodturners do (HSS steel and exotic metals) , I would go with the Oneways or Norton SG. If you can't afford them, Camels pink wheels. I believe they are less expensive.
I would highly recommend some sort of dresser and the Oneway balancing system. The latter has done wonders for how smoothly the cheap grinder I have runs.
