Greetings all

My journal has arrived, and it is a pretty good one this time too. At least, I like it. 😉 I am sure there are others who wouldn't. I was interested to see the comments by Nick Cook, Alan Lacer, and Bob Rosand regarding the Spindle Roughing Gouge- its uses and non uses. Very interesting reading. :cool2:

Would I be right in assuming that I am not the last one to get mine this time?

Bill

Sorry to burst your bubble but. . .

even up here in the wilds on the West Coast of Canada my copy beat you . . . by one whole day. I got mine yesterday and yes, I think it is another great issue. I especially like the finial design article by Cindy Drozda. Another thousand hours or so of practise and I may be able to duplicate some of those.

Now about that order of mine from Craft Supplies that was shipped over a month ago . . . I guess packages don't cross the border with the same efficiency as magazines.

I got mine right before the weekend. Jeff and our home office did a great job getting the sorting code problem straightened out!!

Like you Bill, I was very impressed with the articles and safety points made about the Spindle Roughing Gouge. I would recommend an unwritten rule here on the forum that we use the term Spindle Roughing Gouge or SRG only in discussing this tool as recommended in the side bar box at the end of Bob Rosand's article!!

Wilford, you can just bet that I am going to emphasize the term Spindle Roughing Gouge every chance I have to use the term. 😀 😉

First journal

Ah HA! I've had mine long enough to have read it from cover to cover. And just last night I handed SWMBO a handful of turned spatulas and spoons to try out 🙂

On the night stand

Mine came last week while I was traveling for work. When I got home Sunday night it was on the night stand in the bedroom. That would make sense except it was on my wife's sideof the bed and she had been reading it. I came home to her telling me all about the stuff she wants to see at the symposium. I may be the luckiest guy in the AAW!

That's a great story Frank. Theresa likes to browse through our copy too. The color photos are great! The only problem is she usually asks "when are you going to make me something like this?"...as she is pointing to some amazing work that took 30 or 40 hours to produce!

Hey, Jeff,

You got something better to do? 😉

Nah...I usually just sit around twiddling my thumbs. The board does take some commitment.

On a similar note I've never put more than 10 hours into one piece. Items like the cover piece by Frank Sudol just amaze me. I know Frank developed that style over a long time, but it is still an impressive piece.

Theresa was also impressed with the piece on the back cover by Brian McEvoy. Who wasn't? At least Brian was kind enough to state that the piece took 170 hours. I would be afraid of making a mistake on the piece in the last 10 hours!

My mailman must be a turner......

My mailman must be a turner......because he apparently hasn't finished reading it yet. I sure would like to see what everybody else has known for several days now.
🙁

Still in the dark,
Bill😎
