Kudos to WMH tool group on their warranty service. My new Jet 1642-2 developed motor noises over the week-end. So a call to Dave at WMH on Monday morning - no problem! A local service technician showed up at the house Wednesday morning and installed a new motor!!! Hard to beat service like that.

Bill:

Good to hear this!

I have three Jet lathes (1642-2, 1014 mini, and 1220 midi) and am happy that I've had no problems so far, but it's encouraging to know that they are ready to help when needed.

Just a question- Where are you located? I'm wondering how uniform the service opportunities are relative to geographic location.....

Thanks for reporting on your experience with WMH!

It's not having problems that counts, but prompt help when you need it is good news. Got a half-dozen blue (old style) and red and whites in my shop. So far so good. I've learned to work around their foibles, where they exist, and enjoy the good work they produce.

Bill,

You have had a great experience with WHM but mine has not been so good. My 1642-2 worked great for almost 2 years, until I had problem getting anything to run true. I called WHM and was told to take the head stock to the closest warranty facility (they named the repair place). I have made 5 round trips there and they have been to my shop twice ( once to see the head stock run on my lathe bed and once to measure run out ). WHM finally agreed to replace the lathe but they are out of stock until late August. They do not have entire head stocks for replacement. They said they would find a head stock off of a returned lathe (this concerns me) that checked out fine and send that, less motor and electronics and I would have to do the work of reinstalling the motor and controller. After some persuadeing on my part, they agreed to send a new motor as well since their repair place said my motor was too noisy. I was promised that I would have all of the parts to get my lathe operational no later than July 3. I got the new motor but they shipped the head stock later than promised and to the wrong ZipCode, so I am still without. By the time I get everything back together this will have been going on for over 6 weeks.

LOL, only 6 weeks? My 1442 has been down since April, they have sent me 3 spindle pulleys, 3 center bearings, 1 bearing bracket and then finally told me to take it to their authorized repair center. Upon arival at said repair center, they tell me they have never worked on a woodlathe before, and then proceeded to try and figure out where they could take it to hook it up to 220 service in order to check it out. I had to switch it back to 110 and explain how they could just hook clips up to the plug. 2 days later they come back telling me the shaft was bent, when asked how they came about this finding, they said by checking it with a pair of calipers, right. Anyways go to order new shaft from Jet only to be informed it is on back order untill at least the middle of September, but not realy sure when they are going to come in. So long story short, I'm down 5 - 6 months minimum. Got to add the customer service is still there, but where have all the parts gone?
