I was at our local library recently and did a search on the computer for woodturning. I found two books on the shelf. Woodturning for Pleasure by Gordon Stokes and revised by Robert Lento. The second, The Fundamentals of Woodturning by Mike Darlow. Darlow's book is about 200 pages and is very detailed with text and photos. It is loaded with lots of information. Each "tutorial" section has a list of tools, techniques used and how to do them. I'm going to keep renewing it until the library issues a warrant for my arrest. 😉

Hello John......

A search reveals both of those books are available on Amazon.com.......no need to worry about the knock on the door at 3am from the local SWAT team! 😀

Watch out! The Fundamentals of Woodturning is just the "gateway drug" for his other books.

There is a used bookstore in Chattanooga that has a lot of WW books. Wish I lived closer. I passed up one last year that was for building birdhouses- full spec's for sizes, opening for the birdies, etc. When I went back a few weeks later, it was gone. AAARRRRGGGH!

Don't know if this site has ever been listed here, I have been a user of the rental of DVD's since it began a couple of years ago. They have an extensive wood working /turning section. along with just about every other craft/hobby interest area. the great thing is you can rent them and see if you wood like to buy them. As some I have rented really aren't worth the postage.

Since they started the build your own university membership I have been renting 3 DVD's a month and enjoying them. Since I probably never turn some of the larger bowls or other projects. I still can learn something and watch the great masters at work.
They are great to deal with and will work to correct any problems that one may have with the dvd'd.
smartflix turning section

As a disclaimer I am only a happy member/renter of the dvd"

If you use an e-reader, or tablet or even the regular computer.
