Tomorrow morning, I get to go in and get 2 new hips. When I asked the Doc if we could do both at once, he said, "in your case, I would recommend it". I have been doing a lot of swimming and Thai Chi, which makes me an 'ideal candidate' and I should be running around soon. Totally back to full form in time for Tampa. I'll check back in a day or two. They operate in the morning, and have you on your feet in the afternoon.

Good luck on the surgery. Should be a piece of cake! Look at it like a "tuneup and new struts" for the car. Lol

You are THE MAN! Good luck.

Just so you know though (it's my full-time day job to know this stuff... I'm an anesthesiologist who does much ortho surgery); hip replacements are not as painful as, for instance, knee replacements. Reason is that, when getting into the hip, the sensory nerves (ones that carry the pain signals) are cut; rendering the hip joint without the ability to feel bone pain anymore. the only post-op pain you'll have will be from the incision (skin and tissue stuff), which is often less painfull than the arthritis was before the surgery. I have many of my patients waking up and remarking that they feel better (right after the procedure) than they have for years.

Again, good luck. Keep moving!

robotically done??

I wonder if robo hippy will insist of it being done robotically?? (using the articulated "hip" hollowing rig of course). Good luck, Gretch

Best wishes to you, your family (who just get to sit and worry during your surgery) and your recovery. Hope that all goes smooooooooooothly. Love your thoughts and videos on turning, and can't wait for more of them.

Are you changing your name to "Bionic Hippy" or maybe "Bionic Hipsssy"???????? 🙄

Reed, you are bold to do bi-lateral hips simultaneously. I'll be lifting you up in prayer for successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Blessings, Tom

Thanks for all the well wishes. The doctor's comment was that the surgery went 'perfect'. Getting myself prepared for this for the last 5 years was part of that. The surgery is simpler now. They go in from the top where they push/pull the muscles apart rather than cut so no severe damage. Right now, my quads feel like the first spring day of water skiing. No other pain. I got rid of the oxycotin as well, just plain nasty. I will be walking a lot, and doing my Thai Chi.

Oh, a friend who actually sold me my first lathe, his wife is a therapist. She asked who was going to do the surgery. When I told her, she said, no, don't use him, use this other doctor. He uses a different method, and every one who goes to him has way less rehab time. Great advice.

You should see the reamers they have for removing bone spurs...... I want one.....

Glad things went so well. 😀Back to the lathe when????/ Gretch

They told me I couldn't go swimming again for 4 weeks. Official rehab starts 2 weeks, and no walking without crutches for 2 weeks as well. No real turning for a month or so, maybe some boxes. Just have to play it by ear.

Great!!! Glad to hear it went well. Just be careful when working out. I'm sure they warned you about hip abduction (spreading them out) and dislocations.
