There is a new feature on the AAW web site to view gallery and museum exhibitions. These are exhibitions that either the AAW sponsors, the POP sponsors, or the WOOD (Woodturned Objects On Display) committee facilitates with galleries and museums as well as independently curated exhibitions at galleries and museums. The purpose is to give as much exposure to wood exhibitions as possible. This will benefit artists, collectors, galleries and museums, as well as bring more attention to the AAW as "the place to learn about woodturning art". From the home page, click the 4th tab down on the left "Visit Gallery and Museum Exhibitions" and the exhibitions will be listed at http://www.woodturner.org/gallery/ where you can view the work in many current exhibitions.
If you are aware of a current or upcoming exhibition of woodturned art, contact John Hill - AAW WOOD Exhibition Committee at johnhill6@verizon.net

John:

To confirm, does this also include individual exhibitions held by AAW members at private galleries? (I assume this is what "independently curated exhibitions at galleries and museums" means....). I have an exhibition coming up at a private gallery in July-August, but is is not specifically for woodturned art (it's a shared exhibition with another artist under a general theme) - do the events listed on the AAW site have to be organized around the 'woodturned' theme?

I suspect that some definition of having a 'named' or otherwise advertised exhibition should be in place to distinguish these from 'exhibitions' of turned artwork that is available for sale at galleries in general. Is it envisioned that an on-line submission process will be developed for this information about forthcoming exhibitions, or will you (or another individual) be the gatekeeper?

Thanks for developing this! See you in Albuquerque!

Rob,
This link is designed to announce and have links to exhibitions curated by the AAWs various committees, public exhibitions that have been put together by commercial galleries, or other non-profit organizations. It is not designed as a “Sales listing†location of work by any single artist nor is it intended to be a place for a commercial gallery to simply post a listing of their inventory. It is for formal organized exhibitions.
For now, send submissions to me at johnhill6@verizon.net Since posting this thread, several great exhibitions have been posted.
Thanks
John Hill – AAW WOOD Committee
