Just a heads up for anyone in the dayton area on New Germany treibien Road in beavercreek (the walmart side) there is a guy who will load your truck up with some serious logs. I just brought home a dozen 12 - 14" 8 footers (which nearly killed my poor f150) what I could identify in the dark as I unloaded it was silver maple, red maple, moraine locust and butternut. there was plenty of it and he said he would be around tomorrow as well with his loader. There were also some huge 4ft diameter pieces if anyone has the saw for it. I would hate to see any of this in a land fill or someones fireplace when it could be turned.

It's a long drive, but hard to pass up an offer like that! 😱
I just hope I get there before Dietrich!

It would be almost worth the plane fare just to be there (with a camera) to watch Jeff try to put a four-footer in his trunk. 😀 😀

....right....you're probably planning your second trip there already!

So far I have staunchly met my 2006 goals so far. No new wood, and finishing pieces in my garage. I'm not doing the final cuts on the box elder (from fall 2005) until this fall.

Kinda in the same spot myself. That's why I'm eventually gonna get around to ebaying some of my wood. All in the name of progress, of course.

Just got a call from a friend. Wife is a landscaper and just scored some huge Yew from a property she's working at that is destroying lots of old and wonderful stuff (she said she was in tears). About 8 feet ranging from 10" diameter down to 6". Should be good for a few vases.

Also gotta mill the apple a friend dropped off from a log section we scored. Was approx 4'x3'x3'. Yup. Feet. Biggest danged apple I've ever heard of. Filled the entire bed of his mini pickup with one log. Bout maxed out his suspension too. Took the log yard's cherry picker to load it and had to back up to a tree, tie the piece to it, and pull forward to get it out of the bed.

So I's kinda up to the proverbial eyeballs. Short of those pesky and dangerous burls folks should send me for disposal, I'm on haitus from collecting at the moment.

Dietrich
