Guess I am a bit behind the power curve! Discovered (loose use of the concept) today that the sanding discs/pads of 1 and 2 inch diameter fit on the flex shaft of the ole Foredom tool that I have had for years. Fantastic results on small items. Will give it a try on a bowl in the next day or so. Hard to believe it sat there in my shop all these years without a thought on using it for turning. Anyone else using a Foredom? Please don't tell me every one is! Phil

The only thing you need to keep in mind is the speed. Most of the flexible shafts can go to much higher speeds than the pads are meant to go. Too fast and you melt their little fingers off!

My little Dremel khas a flex shaft that works well. I Discovered that their #511 attachment gets rid of those tool scratches on the inside of a bowl or goblet very quickly. Wear safety glasses, this thing throws off little grains of sand. I use it on high speed with a very light touch after the 100 grit and before the rest of the sanding. 2 fer 3 bucks at the HD.

I've been using an offbrand cheapie to sand. I use a 1" by 3" sanding drum to clean up some work and 1" ans 2" discs. I find these especially useful for cleaning up carving.

I'm actually about to tackle the inside of some small vases with side voids (makes the inside visible) with my Dremel. figured I'd cut sanding discs from some 100 grit cloth backed that I have and go at it. I'll let you know how it works.
