Thank you for all your help. I've been reading a lot of the past threads and have learned a lot in the last week. I have been turning for a couple of months and it has replaced all my other hobbies. I'm hooked!!

This is the fourth bowl that I have completed and the only one worth showing. I was doing it all wrong until I started reading here. As soon as I figured out how to use the bowl gouge the right way it made a HUGE difference. Thanks for all of the great advice that you guys give.

Bryant

How addicted are you? Have you reached the stage where you've run out of room in the shop to store all the really great wood you've found and plan to turn real soon? Are you starting to hide logs behind the bushes in your landscaping yet?

Do you belong to your local turning guild? Many have mentors that will gladly spend some time with you and help you get a handle on the basics so you can take your turning to the next level a whole lot faster than you would be able to by just working on your own.

That is a really nice bowl... especially for only your fourth. I haven't turned too many bowls myself and my fourth didn't turn out that nice!!! Way to go!!

Thanks for the comments.

We have a local club but I have not had time to contact them due to my work schedule. I am going to join though, when time permits. I usually only get to turn a couple hours a week. I do a lot of other custom wood working and the turning is a way to relax and have fun. I do have small stacks of wood all around the shop that will become something one day. My wife asked why I kept all of the small cutoffs over the years and I told her that when I bought a lathe they would be used. That's what I am doing now.

Good job Bryant! You are well on your way. As cobia said, a local club is the best resource for educational assistance. My club has a free woodturning library book program and woodturning video retal program. Our members find that this to be a great resource along with the personal assistance available.
