This is the announcement of the 3nd contest - focusing on Turned Goblets. If you missed the last contests, do a search for "contest" in the forum search.

Rules for this contest:
  1. Deadline is Sunday Oct. 16, midnight. (The contest was announced 9/1/05, so this gives ~6 weeks including 7 weekends to complete the submission).
  2. Each participant will create a Turned Goblet...in line with the feature story from the Fall 2005 AW Journal issue
  3. Any and all turned wooden goblets submissions will be considered
  4. The goblet must be created after 9/1/05 (corresponding to the AW Journal Fall 2005 issue)
  5. One submission per person
  6. Note size restrictions: Each goblet should be between 4"-10" high
  7. Contest is open to all, including AAW members and non-members.

How to submit:
  1. Post your entry in the photo gallery and label it "AAW Forum contest entry" so people will recognize it.
  2. Also email me when you submit the entry, and I'll track the entries - email to jjilg@sbcglobal.net. I will respond with an acknowledgement, unless the spam filter rejects your email. If I don't send an acknowledgement, then send me a Private Message (PM) via the PM function in this forum. Also I will maintain a list of entries in the forum near the end of the contest.

Winner and Prize:

Alain Mailland, a woodturner of international renown, has gratiously volunteered to judge the entries of the contest.

The prize is:
1) The winner will be announced in the forum, and on the AAW homepage.
2) The winner will also be announced in the AW Journal.

The winning woodturner will be requested to write a short description about the piece, their inspiration for it, and a short woodturner biography. This writeup from the artist will be due within 1 week after the contest results are announced. The writeup will be turned into a webpage. The webpage would be announced and linked on the homepage similar to the last winner John Lucas as shown here: http://www.woodturner.org/news/forum_turning_contest_results_summer_2005.htm

Please ask any questions if any of this is unclear or if there is a typo of some type. Also please feel free to enter the contest - wooden goblets are a good item to add to your woodturning skills arsenal!

Entries Completed, Please verify your entry

FOR ALL FOLKS WHO ENTERED:
Please verify that your entry is listed in the posting that I have maintained in this thread. If you entry is not listed please email me. Also email me if there is a correction or typo.

Announcement of Results:
There will be an estimated time when the winners are announced, and I'll post it within the next 3 days.

I've emailed the judge, who is out of the country. I've asked him to verify receipt of the email and to estimate when the judging will be complete. I've asked for judging to be accomplished within a week. However, he may be extremely busy or may not have access. I'll post a summary status when available.

In the meantime I'm taking the "sticky" feature off this thread.

Just don't fall on your lathe when you die, it makes a terrible mess for someone else to have to clean up.😀

Sticky means it stays at the top of the forum list even if there have been no recent posts.

Thanks Jim,
Im still trying to figure out all these threads and needles, and what ever else is done here. I still dont get exactly what a thread is. Im glad I at least got the turning thing figured out !! 😛

Let's take questions like this using a new thread of discussion. Taking an existing thread of discussion and changing the topic is called "hijacking a thread". To start a new thread just click "new thread".
