have some questions,
and you good folks are the only ones i can communicate with.
are penn state industries reputable to deal with ?, i live in canada, and will have no issues dealing with them, or should i say ordering from them.
grizzley aint interested.
penn state have a 4 inch indexed face plate, that would suit me fine, but there is no info regarding left hand thread.
im assuming , that i need an adapter, which one?\
my lathe is a delta midi model number la 200, the inboard end of shaft, is 1inch x8thread, but the outboard end of shaft im not sure it is three quarters of an inch in diameter, number of threads is 16 but there isa a section machined to take a setscrew for handwheel, i m not sure of what to order, to screw an order over such long distances is a pain.
sure would be gratefull for some assistance.

Dave,
If you're talking about your Penn State/face plate question -- no.

I can say that my orders from Penn State have been all satisfactory.

The Delta 200 midi is going to require someone familiar with the lathe (and I'm not) to answer your questions. I take it though the head does not swivel to be able to turn outboard. right? wrong?

My experience - Penn State is a fine company to deal with. The quality of their products can range from excellent to acceptable. Their prices are generally set at a level to make all their products a good value, if not always the absolute best quality. Not everybody needs the absolute best quality all the time, so they do a good business.

As far as the second part of your question. I wasn't sure I really understood what you are trying to do. It sounds like you want to do outboard turning by replacing the handwheel on the outboard side of your headstock with a faceplate. If that's what you want to do, I would seriously consider talking to a technician at Delta. The bearings in the headstock may not be designed to take any kind of a load on that side of the headstock. Also, you will probably be turning larger stuff outboard than you turn inboard, but you will be doing it with a smaller spindle (3/4" vs 1"). That can't be a good idea.

Dave if it was me trying to put the index wheel on the outboard side (hand wheel side) I would get a thread gauge and measure the threads then see if I could find a nut through a local supplier that would fit then I would know what to order so you don't have the return problem of the wrong thing.or do a little engeerning and mount the index wheel to the hand wheel. You have the lathe you can make some wood adapters to mount the index to the hand wheel.
just a thought
