Face mask and shield that won't fog up everything

I use my 3m filter mask under my face shield (supposed to be anti fog); along with my prescription reading glasses (safety lens). So it eventually fogs the glasses, or the face shield, or both. Have any of you discovered a non expensive solution to this problem? I do not have oodles of cash for a air supplied shield, not to mention with my bad neck; the pain of leaning over with one of those on. Right now I have the Eclipse P100 mask, and the Sellstrom S32210 shield.

I would suggest perusing eBay for a used PAPR. Occasionally a good deal can be found.

I use a North 7700 half mask respirator. The exhalation valve points downward, so your breath doesn't hit the face shield. At least for me, I haven't had problems with fogging up my Bionic faceshield. About $40 on Amazon. The medium size fits my face; small and large are also available.




My shop is in my basement which is normally about 60-65 F. Not sure if I would still be fog free if working in a colder shop like an unheated garage.

We don't get very cold here, but the biggest problem with fogging here is in hot humid summer weather because the absolute humidity is much greater than it is in cold weather.

@John Hicks, looking at your equipment I notice that your dust mask exhausts directly forward, while your face shield is fairly close fitting at the lower edge and sides. So the air you exhale is going to be trapped between your face and the shield.

For a time I used the Eclipse filter with a 3M face shield more open at the bottom and sides and did not have a problem with eyeglass fogging. So that's an option. You could also look for a filter that exhausts from the bottom of the mask.

Just a couple of thoughts.

I'm thinking of replacing the face shield with craft supplies bubble shield, pricey, but gives extra room for a filter. I do need to modify mine to exhaust down.

It seems unlikely in your case, but if you don't have a near perfect fit across the bridge of your nose, you will have leakage there and it will fog your glasses. As mentioned above, half face respirators come in sizes and it's conceivable you don't have quite the right one.

You may have to wait to a new face shield or respirator. With the coronavirus panic these items are selling out online. You may have better luck visiting a store.

I was really happy with my RZ Mask and anti fog bionic face shield combo that I was using up until I moved to a powered respirator.

they are totally sold out right now with the coronavirus panic though.

I'm the poster boy for finding a good deal on Ebay. @Bill Boehme is not far behind. I paid pennies on the Dollar for my 3M Versaflow helmet with a Breath Easy unit. I then got a vest to carry the unit on my back. Best respirator helmet I have ever own. I had an Airstream for a few months, was too top-heavy. We have an epic thread describing how I got it...
