Hello everyone,
New to AAW/forum and woodturning, however I've been doing general woodworking for a few years now.

Currently using an old Delta/Rockwell 46-111 and still learning how to use it. Trying to use this lathe until I know for sure that I want to pursue woodturning and/or I find a good deal on a newer one. The unit works ok(ish), but it's a pain to adjust the banjo with the wrench. Also it sounds like the slowest rpm is still too fast to safely try my hand at bowls, etc. So right now I have been focusing on spindle type of turning like Christmas trees, etc.

I live in North Central Ohio, a small town called Norwalk which is about 30 minutes south of Cedar Point amusement park. The closest club (according to AAW) is over an hour away. I would like to find some experienced turners closer to me that I could learn from. If anyone lives near me or knows someone who does, please let me know.

Looking forward to being a member of the forum.

Yes, welcome!

I am certain there are woodturners in your area - they seem to be everywhere! And a club may be worth visiting even if it's a bit of a drive - watch demonstrations, meet people, ask questions, learn about local opportunities and classes...

One big advantage of connecting with a clubs is many have mentoring programs that can link you up with experienced turners for instruction, perhaps one very close to you!

We have members in the Knoxville TN club who drive more than an hour to attend meetings every month. (We put the meetings on Zoom too)
There are some in our club who regularly drive to attend other clubs far more than an hour's drive - some are members in more than one club! Some carpool to the meetings - maybe that's an option in your area. There are so many enthusiastic turners out there!

It sounds like you already did this and if so, sorry for the repetition, but if you haven't (or if someone else wants to know how):
Go to this page, select Find Chapters, and put in your location, and click the Find button.
I typed in Ohio and it found six AAW chapters in Ohio.
I see twelve in TN, some I've never heard of!

The list I got for Ohio, have no idea if it's up to date. Could call AAW and ask.
