Last September, Ellsworth turned at the Turning Southern Style Symposium. His Gouge appeared to be a standard Pro-PM Ellsworth Signature Gouge with the exception that the steel was darkened (like Thompson or P&N tools).
Does anyone have the skinny on what this is about?
TIA

I sent David an email. He said the Ellsworth gouges were made in three forms: the standard HSS version, the Pro-PM version, and the ones exclusive to David which have the black coating on them. He says the metal characteristic is no different from the Pro-PM gouges (as John suggested).

If your smart and lazy you have the company that does the heat treatment make new fixtures so the color is even then leave the black color on. LoL

I know some smart people.........😀

BTW
Rosand, or whoever borrowed tools in TN, gave me back one of your spindle gouges, in my Blue handle. Did you loan it to him? I thought I had handed him one of my detail gouges.

John,
Mike Mahoney borrowed a 3/8 spindle gouge with your blue handle so you now have another gouge that needs a home. Bob Rosand picked up a 3/8 detail and a skew, Cindy Drozda got a 3/8 spindle so they should be set. I'll start another batch this week that will include that custom 1/2V for you.
