What's a lathe? Oh yea that thing that sits in the garage and eats up all your time, energy and money. Wouldn't live without it. Welcome to the fold Joe

Yep, I just went and checked that my all black Harley has a layer of dust covering it along with last summers bugs. Harley in the summer and my lathe in W.S.F.

During this time of the year, and up until late Fall, my lathe definitely has to give up some of my attention, but the lathe has been a 365 day a year obsession for decades! 😀

Did you know black is the most popular color for Harleys? I wouldn't have it any other way, my friend!

Also, if you at least throw a sheet over the bike, it'll be a lot easier to clean up come spring time. (I have a regular motorcycle cover.) If you ride it hard, and put it away wet, that crud gets hardened with added filmy dust, and a PITA to remove.

Funny how the lathe gets almost no cleaning or attention, other than a wipe with an oily rag on the bedways now and then........but the Harley.....it gets pampered, polished, waxed, rubbed down, and generally spoiled like a rich kid!

That reminds me, I do spray down the lathe drive belt with belt preservative every year.......and it's time to do that!

Ride free, lathe turning buddy.........:cool2:

Hiya Paul......

Sounds like you've got some neck-jerk power, there, pard......Heh,heh,heh!

Mine is a 2000 carburated 88ci FXDX, dyna.....put a lot of time on that baby, just short of 28,000 miles! Mechanically, it's pretty much as it came, but breathes a little better with Vance Hines pipes and better air cleaner.....lot's of new chrome, though. Sort of like a great ol' lady......she just keeps gettin' better with time! I always look at the new bikes when I'm at the Harley dealer.....and, I never see anything I like better.......(I wouldn't trade the ol' lady in for a newer model, either!).....I guess I'll keep both of them for life! 😀

Wait for the right time, and ask her nice......you'll have your new lathe! :cool2:

Odie I wouldn't own a Harley. Not my image. I want a BMW so bad it hurts. I sold my dirt bike many years ago and have regretted not having a bike so I'm looking again. There are Harley's everwhere for sale, I guess people just want to dump them 🙂 🙂

Some of us would not ride anything but a Harley, to that, to each his own. One thought tho I would not in an open forum tell a man that his choice is some how of lesser quality and everybody must be getting rid of them. How about a BMW is a fine machine but not for me I'll stick with my American bike in these troubled times.

Paul Didn't mean to put anyone down. As long as you ride a bike your my kind of person. One of my best friends is a Harley rider and we kid each other all the time. Kind of like Suzuki riders chiding Honda riders, or for that matter American, vs Japanese bikes etc. If your on 2 wheels your doing something right. Now let's pick on the 4 wheelers. 🙂

OK by me, John.......this is what freedom is all about, isn't it?

BTW: I've owned a BMW, Harley, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and a Triumph........but, the Harley is my favorite of them all.......wish I'd started out with the Harley.......but, then again, I probably wouldn't appreciate the Harley as much as I do, without having a "hands on" comparison!

You're right about there being a lot of Harleys for sale lately. Many who have them are not really "riders"......they just want to have the status......a few hundred miles per year make them a "Harley guy".....in their own mind! This is ok, too.......

We are probably going to see a whole new batch of Harley owners very soon.......those who couldn't afford one, but the current "buyer's market" pushed them over the edge, and couldn't stand it anymore!

There's more to owning a Harley than just occasionally riding. It's a style, as well as a life-style for some......and the social interaction is more abundant and fun than any other group on the planet!......except maybe sports fans!

Sure there are always the bad-asses! Those are the type that I suspect make you say, "It's not your image".......but, just keep in mind that there are a lot of good, fun loving, people riding Harleys.....many you wouldn't suspect. There is a Female Doctor here that organizes Harley rides.......but, you knew all along that Harleys aren't just for Hell's Angels and Bandidos.......right?

I like you have owned several bikes 15 in all but the last 3 have been Harley's. A 1991 Heritage a 1999 Electra glide Classic and now my 2007 Street Glide. As you can see I have had mostly touring bikes and I too love the Harley's the best. They all have had there finner points but nothing stands up to the Harley's. The old saying that you can sorta look like Elvis and you can even sound a little like him but everybody knows you ain't Elvis. period.
