Hello, I'm considering buying a good dust protection helmet and need your advise. Trend Airshield or 3M airstream? I will be using it only for turning. Thanks.

i have the old style trend.....once you get used to having it on your head, you really appreciate it, even turning green wood

I have never used the airstream, I have heard good things about it, just no experience with it

I've had the AG-H1 Airstream for about 20 years, and I can recommend it with confidence. I have never used any other powered dust helmet, so I can't compare.....but, the Airstream does work very well. This helmet has been revised several times over the years....but, this older version still works fine. I have replaced the batteries a couple times, and they are expensive.

Since I don't use it as much, now that I don't sand nearly as much.....I'm also using a Resp-O-Rator in my shop for limited time periods. Here is a link to the Resp-o-rator:

Note: The pic is old, and I almost never used a rubber half mask anymore......but, they are cheap and very effective......can't stand to have that rubber on my face for hours at a time anymore, but it's all I used back in the 1980's.

I have the Airstream AS-400 (essentially the same one that Odie has) and love it. It is comfortable and has a HEPA filter. It has plenty of air flow so it is comfortable in hot weather. A friend bought the Trend Airshield Pro and he hates it. He finally quit using it and has gone back to a paper dust mask.

I was looking at Amazon.com and found two models: As400 and As600. Little difference in money. Went on the 3M site to check the difference between the two models and could not find anything except that the 600 is recommended for mining and has a little thing on the top front. For a light? If this is the case I might consider the 600 because a light there might be helpful since I always straggle for light when turning. But then where to find a light for the thing? Any thoughts?
PS: I'm definitely considering the airstream.

Sergio I have been using the Trend air-pro for a few years and it has been great. I turn just about every day and the constant light air flow over your face down here with the humidity very high is important to prevent my reading glasses from fogging up. I use it primarily for sanding which I do quite often. It works very well filtering out even the fine sanding dust produced from 600 grit sand paper. I have never fooled with the extra battery because I have never been able to turn for over 8 hours straight so it was never needed. I have never used the other one but the Trend air-pro is a very good product although the plastic head band on mine had to be replaced once.

Sergio,

I have used the Trend Air Shield, Trend Air Shield Pro, the Triton PRA01 Powered Respirator as well as the 3M AS400. All of them work well, however I prefer the 3M AS400 and use it. It is by far the most comfortable and most unobtrusive when in use. After all the best protection is "the one you use". With all the others I was always finding reasons not to wear it and then regretting my decision when trying to breathe the next morning.

Enjoy the fresh air!

Been using the Trend Air-pro for about 6 months. To repeat Breck: works well and only charge every 2-3 days (can't turn for 8 hours). The unit does tend to tilt forward as the head band on mine seems to lose tension. I like the ease of putting this on and is comfortable. No experience with other units.

I got a 3M Dustmaster from Amazon it was from Australia. I love it, it's fit is so good you can't tell you have it on,battery last at lest 8 hr's face shield has almost no blur if any. I had a Trend pro but got a headache after 20 minutes of use the doc.said the fine vibration from the fan on my head did it. I sent it back and got the Dustmaster..NO Headaches, very comfortable wear it all the time.

I had the Trend Pro for two years and liked it. I switched to the 3M AirStream and BreatheEasy units and have been very happy with them. I especially like the flip up visor of the 3M helmets. The Trend is a better dollar value, but I am happy we switched over to the 3M systems.
