I am wondering if anyone would know where I could find plans to build a jig to mount a Dremel tool on a lathe so it could be used to put detailing on a bowl ?
It could go on the banjo or the lathe stand.
Thanks,
Jeff

I've made a few jigs to use either a Dremel type tool or a small router on my lathe. A wooden block attached to the tool with a hose clamp then held in the jaws of a cross side vise (clamped to the lathe bed) plus indexing on the head stock will allow you to put the tip of the cutter pretty much where ever you want- accurate but slow. I have also made a small smooth aluminum table that fits in the banjo and attached a small 1/4" plexiglass plate to the rotary tool. This allows me to slide the tool easily along the length of the piece and in and out, again using the indexing feature to hold piece secure. To drill repeatable smallish holes in a piece I usually drill a hole in a piece of 1" diam aluminum and clamped it in the banjo like a tool post. I just line it up on the piece and using an electric drill run a bit through the hole in the aluminum. To change sizes just drill a new hole in the aluminum. I am sure there are lots of other ideas out there.
have fun!

I made one for making wheels its set on centre with the routre fixed to an upright which si on a base that slides on the bed with a guide between the ways of the Nova .

I use most of a Dremel drill press (took the carriage off of the vertical shaft), and mount it to an aluminum rod that screws into a modular tool post.

It took only a few minutes to drill and tap the hole into the aluminum, and this rig works well.

Having the lever to control plunge cuts is very nice.

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I use routers and Dremel's. Here is a photo of my Dremel rig.

The Dremel router base accessory (older style, #230) grips the tool in two places - at the body, and at the nose collar. I think it's more secure than a wood block or hose clamp. The base plate can be removed, and replaced with a plywood shape of any configuration, using screws similar to the original attachment. Add a few more pieces of plywood to make an open box. The base of the box can even be fitted with a tracing stylus to follow a pattern.
