i need some help dismantling sierra click pens and sierra twist pens. What if any is the preferred method without ruining the click mechanism or can it even be done? too expensive to throw em away.

The twist pens can be easily taken apart by placing a punch in the hole and, as you hold the pen, tap the punch with a hammer and the clip end will come out. Pen turning supply places sell dis-assembly kits and Turning catalog sells punch sets which I like better since they're cheaper and more versatile. In my opinion the best option would be this one from Harbor Freight.

Afterall, a punch set is a punch set. With all of the different sizes, there's one that will work on practically any pen.

As far as "clicks", don't know-never made them. I'd call the supply you got the hardware from and ask them how to do it.

Hope that helps.

alan: your click pens will be very difficult to get done without breaking/jamming up the clicker mechanism. The rest of your pens can be banged apart..if you don't have metal punches, use a dowel, or turn a piece that fits snugly in the tube..good luck

If you drill a hole in the end of a good hardwood dowel that will fit around the clicker mechanism, then you can remove the finial/clicker with out damaging it any further.

As far as a punch set is a punch set, the Harbor Freight ones are transfer punches, and there for have a point for transferring locations, and can and usually will do more damage to the piece being removed. They are good for doing some of the pen dis-assembly jobs, but unless you can get the pointed end ground off, you can usually cause more damage. Also, the opposite end is slightly rounded and can cause flareouts, and then again, more damage.

What is needed is a pin punch (used to remove roll pins).
