Disc/belt sander problem

I have a Sherwood disc/belt sander & need to replace the drive belt.
This is an older Sherwood made in USA, more recent models made in Asia. Have asked on a couple of forums with no luck so thought I would try on here.
I can't see how the disc comes off so I can remove & install new belt. The guard can't be bent to allow access. There are not any Allen screws etc to remove.
Please help as I am getting very frustrated.

Cheers
Col

You can't remove the key as there should be a set screw holding it ( and jambing the assembly) See if you can access it behind the disc. It should be an allen wrench socket. Then remove the disc by prying on the backing plate. If there is no set screw just try prying it off. Ron.

If you can not remove the sanding disk you may be able to remove the drive pulley (look for setscrew on hub of pulley) and then perhaps the belt can be removed over the sanding disk and between it and the sheet metal cover.

Also access to the set screw on the hub of the sanding disk could be from the direction of the drive pulley, use a small light and mirror to look.

Finally got the bugger sorted, after hours of puzzling. There wasn't an Allen screw in the centre of the disc after all.

IN the grove of the bottom pulley wheel there is a "grub screw" which is undone with an Allen key.
Then was able to get a torch & mirror to see up & behind the top pulley wheel, there I found a "grub screw" with a slot which we could just reach to undo.
With 2 large screwdrivers levering the disc forwards & tapping the centre it finally, very slowly came off.

Nipped in to see Michael at Peel Bearings Tools & Fittings, Mandurah WA, great bloke who really knows his trade. No problem costs $7.60

Should be up & running later this morning.

Thanks for the help & advice.

Ya gotta take it apart some more~!!
The housing/shroud has to come off. Under that, you should find set screws locking it to a key way on a shaft.

Col, I don't know if you did it the hardest way possible, but if not, it would rank close to the top.

If you will notice that the motor is mounted with slots so that the belt tension can be adjusted. All that is necessary is to loosen the motor mounting bolts and then slide the motor so that the belt can be removed. After installing the new belt, slide the motor to tension the belt. The correct amount of tension is so that the belt has about a half inch of play at mid span using light finger pressure. I realize that this is not the most elegant solution to removing, replacing, and tensioning a belt, but then this is sort of the norm for home shop machines. If you had several arms like Durga it would help to hold tension and motor orientation as well as tightening the mounting bolts. 🙄

that only removes the belt from the drive pulley on the motor

the belt still has to be removed from the sanding disk end - which can't be done because of the shroud.

went through similar with the old Craftsman disk/belt sander I have.

Re :- the top pulley wheel......poor description... the top pulley wheel is part of the disc , so they both came off at the same time.

Bill....Sorry if you misunderstood.......I am talking about the removing the drive belt for the disc ...

Thanks to those who answered the post
