hi folks,
my name is dave lancaster, im new to the forum, been lurking for some time now .
have a problem i would like to run by you all,
my lathe is a delta midi, is it possible that a face plate exists for the outboard end of lathe?.
i must stress that i have no intention of outboard turning, my intentions are to fit a indexing plate, the pitch of the thread differs from inboard to outboard.
does one exist and where can i purchase one?
thanks for reading my post, will appreciate your feedback
regards dave

Dave,
You didn't say if you already have the indexing plate. If not, check out Alisam Engineering for the indexing plate, and then all you'll need is the left hand nut to hold it on the outboard spindle. Might be a lot simpler than buying the face plate. Just a suggestion...🙂

Face plate

Dave,
No, you're not missing anything. You can put the indexing plate on the outboard spindle, but you need a left hand threaded nut to hold it in place. Not sure where you can get that, but you might check out the Delta accessories.

If the Delta has a handwheel you can make an indexing plate to go between the handwheel and the outboard bearing. I did that for my Jet mini. I probably have a photo on my home computer.

I'd check the equivalent of Fastenal or other fastener suppliers before I'd try to negotiate that nightmare of a B&D support site. They will have left-hand threads. You'll want two, minimum, so that you can use the one to lock the other against unwinding when you power down. Suggest the half-thick versions. If you have the diameter and pitch, great. If you can't measure (count) the pitch, it might just be the standard for that diameter if your moon's in the proper house and the manufacturer decided to buy off the shelf.

I don't know what the thread is on your lathe but the older Delta's had a 1x8 left hand thread. They sold faceplates that had both threads in them. It looked like an X pattern inside the threaded portion of the faceplate. If you outboard thread is 1"x8 left hand then you might be able to order one from Delta or buy one on EBAY.
