Hello all, not sure if this is OK to post here or if it has to be in Want Ads.

I'm looking for someone who has a copy of David Springett's book called Woodturning Trickery. I've emailed David directly actually and it's not available - even from him.

I would like to borrow it if possible. I would gladly pay for shipping both ways if someone out there has it.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Kevin

Wow, that is unexpected. I recently saw that Craft Supplies was selling it along with David's special tools. The publisher sent me a review copy several years ago, but I gave it to someone else to do the review. Good luck, I wish that I still had a copy because I would like to try some of his nested spheres.

Thanks.

The book you are referring to I believe is "Woodturning Wizadry" I have that book as well as the DVD. It is excellent and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it! (sorry to yell, but it's an awesome instructional set).

David, made another book called "Woodturning Trickery" that I'm trying to find. I'm not sure how available it was in the US - if at all. I read somewhere while looking for it online that it might only have been published in the UK.

Woodturning Full Circle

This is another book by David Springett that is a good one and I think is still in publication. I just finished a project from Woodtuning Evolution by David and Nick Agar another great book.

Go to your public library and see the person who handles interlibrary loans. You should be able to borrow a copy that way for 1-2 months, probably at no cost.

The public library is an excellent suggestion. Here in Ca. there is an online search feature, I can enter the book name/author, see if there is a copy in any of the library's in the state. I can then order it and have it delivered to my nearest. Bet Ohio has the same.

You can go to worldcat.org to see where copies are in the US -- that can make your interlibrary loan person happier -- not only locations but detailed bibliographic data the librarian will use to request the book. Interlibrary loan is a wonderful thing.

I don't see that copy on Amazon anymore. Of course you can always check back.

I've seen books I wanted that were out of print and the price was really high...

I just waited a few months until someone offered it for about half the price.

Have you looked at Woodturning Full Circle by David Springett? It might possibly have the sort of things that you are looking for. There is a preview provided in the link.

I checked Fox Chapel Publishing and they don't show a book by that title. Maybe it is published by another publisher.

David Springett's web site says that Trickery is his newest book and the only one that is out of print is Adventures. It is interesting because I think that some of his stuff may be published under a different title in the US. He does not show Full Circle on his web site in the UK. I think that Fox Chapel (a US publisher) is second sourcing a lot of older craft books. I have a lot of books that were originally published by various publishers and now I see almost all of the titles being offered by Fox Chapel.

Woodturning Trickery was published in the UK. I borrowed a copy through interlibrary loan several years ago. The contents are essentially distinct from his later, and more widely available, books.

BTW, I revised my previous post after I discovered tht the book was probably published by a different publisher in the UK. If you need the ISBN number of Trickery, here it is: ISBN 0 9517157 6 3

His web site says that it is available from him, but he doesn't date his web pages so it may be very old information.

He told me himself by email that that web page was ancient and he had been trying to have it taken down for years with no success. Like I said, he told me he didn't even have a copy of that book himself that he could get to me.

I'll keep looking.

thanks all.

I just went to "Worldcat.org" as has been suggested previously in this thread. They indicate there is a copy in Indiana and one in Louisiana. If you contact your local library they can order it for you.

Thanks Dwight. I literally just did the same as you. I'll check the library angle as soon as I can.

I did find one website in the UK that claims they have it, but I sent them an email to confirm that first before I purchase because I doubt they actually do.
