Received the following email message today:

"Meet woodturning icon David Ellsworth at the Wood Turning Center's Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA this Friday, December 19th from 4-7 PM as he exhibits his work and signs his new book, Ellsworth on Woodturning. This first ever book from Ellsworth features all the step-by-step guidance you need to create an open bowl, a natural-edged bowl, and his trademark hollow vessel.

Can't make the signing? Order your copy of Ellsworth on Woodturing today and save 20%! Better yet, order the exclusive, limited-edition hardcover-signed and numbered by David Ellsworth. Only 500 have been printed and they're going fast! Order by clicking here."

My experience is that you can purchase the soft-copy cheaper through other vendors, but the signed and numbered hard-copy can only be purchased through this limited source...unless you've got an inside track with David

(what are you rolling your eyes for?!)
Not to take anything away from the Woodturning Center, but you can order the softcopy from David directly for $35 each including shipping and he will autograph it for you. And he takes paypal. Tell him I sent you and see if he rolls his eyes (well that would be tough through email and the phone though wouldn't it).

I'm reading it now. Very interesting. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through but I've enjoyed what he has to say. I think anyone of any skill level will learn something. If nothing else you get a better feel for David's personality. It's definitely a book you should own.

elsworth hands on

my best one day hands on experience ever was with david at willard baxters shop in georgia about 1997 ,i think. he is a tremendou s teacher and individual. this was before he became the "elder statesman" of woodturning.

I have to admit to owning two copies - a soft cover for in the shop and a hard cover autographed copy. Of course, I'm kind of partial to the lathes David is pictured using in the book as well.

All that aside, it's a masterwork by a master turner. Still time to get one before Christmas ! Brent English

:D I see what you did there, Brent.
