Seems like I remember someone on the forum mentioning he was bringing his radio.

146.52 simplex

73 de KB5AI

That was me!

I'll be arriving between 3 & 4 pm into L'ville and will be monitoring 146.52 MHz (FM simplex), with occasional "CQ AAW" calls on the approach to Louisville (I'm running 55 W on 2m). I'll also probably also bring my HT for occasional use during the symposium, and will monitor .52 at times during the days. (I haven't investigated local repeaters.)

For those of you hams with HF, I'll also be running mobile on 20, 15, or 10m essentailly during my whole 9.5 hour drive all day on wednesday. If you'll be on the air between 06:00 through 15:30 EDT on these bands, we can try to set up a schedule. E-mail me in advance if you'd like (rwallace@iastate.edu); I usually hang out on 20 m between 14.200 and 14.250, and will be running 100 W from the mobile. I'll be on the air again following the syposium from 13:00 to 24:00 EDT on saturday during the return trip home, (...which is Field Day weekend!). If you hear me, give me a call!

See you on the air or at the Symposium,

Best 73,

Rob Wallace, WA0RW (mobile 0, 9, and 4 on wednesday!)

(BTW Mark..... ...there is no channel 19 in the "real" radio world! 😉 )

Back when I was still flying, I operated aeronautical mobile sometimes on 2M simplex -- I didn't want to trigger all of the repeaters in the country. I could get some rare DX using only 10W and a little stub antenna on the belly of the plane. Trouble was, it was difficult to work anybody with all of the QRM and contacts had to be brief. I even did a few phone patches before the days of cell phones, but only at low altitude so as not to trigger more than one repeater on the same frequency -- didn't want any LD charges on local calls. That didn't work so well in TCAs when things get very busy talking to TRACON and flying so I gave up the idea. BTW, when you remove the back seat from a Skylane and have no passengers, you can carry a huge amount of wood.

BTW, Mark, I think that there is NASCAR on ESPN right now.😀😀

Oh Yeah, all you snooty high-dollar radio dudes with yer little "CQ" card collections from Outer Slobovians, and yer tech-speak acronyms think you're impressing people. Well, the rest of us know where the speed-cops are an yew don't 'cause y'aint gotcher usable ears on. 😀

Be Westbound and Downnnnnnnn, loaded up and truckinnnn'! :cool2:

ps: Never did quite understand why people get so allfired excited about a bunch of guys making left turns all afternoon.
