A couple months ago I promised to upload pieces made from a cherry tree with lots of "onion burls". The burl portions were just full of water, and practically every growth ring opened up as the wood dried. I stopped turning these with relatively thick walls before the cracks got too bad, and the bowl especially warped quite a bit as it dried. The cracks were filled with coffee grounds/epoxy mixture and sometimes just epoxy tinted black. The burl portions were bright maroon in color when freshly cut but after drying and finishing, they are a dark orange-brown. I love the contrast between the black lines, the dark orange burl, the medium orange cherry heartwood, and cream colored sapwood. The vase is 8" tall, 6" diam. The bowl is 5" tall, 11" diam

I asked about a burl and answers I got were onion burl. I finished a small set of 3
"nested" ones (boring "figure or grain), and now am in the process of finishing a small bowl. Will post later when done. Just got back from 8 days out of state. Gretch
