Follow this link and look for Chatter tool. http://www.robert-sorby.co.uk/movie-clips.htm#CTb it's a short clip but imformative.I never did it but I have read you can snap off a hacksaw blade and make your own. Good luck have fun:cool2:
Pick up a one of the metal cutting blades that they use to assemble the metal 2x4 buildings. There are usually tons of them lying around most construction sites. I cut them to length, usually around 2" or a little more depending on how you want to hold them.
I prefer the commercial cutters but you can buy the blades seperate and make your own handle and holder if you have the skills.
Here is a PDF of a simple chatter tool. http://www.cumberlandwoodturners.com/htm/tips.htm
Thanks much, Mark and John. This is exactly what I was looking for. Fact is: I enjoy making my own tools - not as much as turning, mind you, but close - so making a chatter tool shouldn't be hard.
John, kudos to your club on the "Tips" section of the website - super info and not just of "high-dollar" chatter tool...
