Hey yall,
What do you do when you are in the shop and board? I start thing of something new to do or do what I see yall doing. I have been looking at captive rings of lateand I wanted to try, but I do not have the tools for it , so I improvised ,as my saying goes. I used some dental picks that I have and went to town. It was fun and I know next time I can and will do a better job . I did not sand under the ring this time but next time I will.
Let me know what yall think.

Jude very fun. That's what turning is all about. Having fun. I don't know if you would call it boredom but this is what I've been doing lately. Really really small goblets. The biggest is 3/16" and the smallest is about 1/16". I made the big ones from ebony and the smaller ones from yellow heart. The yellow heart is a better wood for this, it has less sap pockets. I plan to add a captured ring to one about the size of the biggest one. May even try 2 rings if I'm feeling really steady handed.

nice small work. I realy was not bord but lack of better words that one fits what I look like when I just sit their and stare.
Loooking foward to seeing the gobblets with the rings .
I am thinking of doing two rings on the next pen. An dI am shure the pen is good to fiddle with during meetings or to show off. 🙂

I haven't done any pens for a long time. I need to get back on it. I've seen so many good ones from Jim Shaver and some other people it's getting me excited about it.
