It seems quite frequent that I cannot access the online Journals. I keep getting "IE cannot display this page" (or similar) messages.

And a pre-emptive statement before anyone asks, yes I keep IE, Flash, Java, and all related programs updated and patched a couple times a month.😎

Of course, at the moment I'm posting this complaint, I can get into this area with no trouble.... 🙁 (or is that 🙂 - I'm so conflicted. )

So, please, can someone shed light on the problem? Is the AAW server or service provider just flaky?

IE 7 is worse than 8, but, there are some days when I can't get 7 or 8 to do what I want.

IE has a LOT of bloat behind the scenes which is the reason that many are looking forward to 9 (if you're stuck on IE that is).

I run multiple browsers on my machines for just this reason. For years I ran firefox and IE as my 2 browsers, but in the last 6 months, I've moved to using Google Chrome and IE (I can't get away from IE - work requirement).

I don't have too much trouble with IE 7 or 8.

It's all the stinkin' add-ons that give trouble. Microsoft just produced a white paper that sums up most problems with IE instability - it's all those stupid toolbars that come automatically with updates for software - like Java.

I don't have any toolbars either.

I don't think the problem with accessing online AAW Journals is IE....

Folks say that IE is a memory hog...

But in my experience Firefox takes a lot longer to load than IE.😕

So essentially you guys are going to say the IE is the problem and not anything else?

If it is any consolation, I hate IE because it is always hanging or crashing on my machine. I went back to IE version 7 and it is better, but not perfect. I use Firefox 99.44% of the time and I do not use add-ons or toolbars on Firefox. I tried Chrome about a year ago, but it was a bit too bare-bones and did not display everything correctly. I have not encountered any problems on this site when using Firefox.

+1 on Chrome. Gave up on IE over a year ago. Used Firefox for a while. Use chrome now with very few problems. Keep multiples on the machine case one breaks.

Have not had any problems with the journals and Chrome.

Never a fan of IE, but due to myopic sites that won't work with anything else, I keep it around, sometimes using it for troubleshooting if another browser seems to be having trouble.

If you had tried again, using a different browser, you'd probably discover whether the problem was on your end or the site.

I've run Firefox since the early days (Netscape before that, and Mosaic (on Unix) before Netscape came along). It may vary higher, depending on what I'm working on, but I typically have 5 cascaded Firefox windows totaling 25-30 tabs open. I use several plugins and am annoyed if I have to reboot more often than every week or two.

I really don't notice any significant difference in initial load time for either browser, and once it's up, load time is a non-issue.
