Call for Entries: 2009 NICHE Awards Competition

Application forms, rules and guidelines are now available for download at www.AmericanCraft.com through the "NICHE Awards" link.

Entry fees and deadlines (postmark dates):
Professionals: $35 - August 30, 2008
Students: $15 - September 30, 2008.

The NICHE Awards annually celebrate excellence and innovation in American and Canadian craft. Categories include Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Metal, Wood, Jewelry, Home Furnishings, Judaica, Recycled and many more.

Judging is based on three main criteria:
1. technical excellence, both in surface design and form
2. market viability (professional entries only)
3. a distinct quality of unique, original and creative thought

Finalists are invited to display their work in the NICHE Awards exhibit at the February Buyers Market of American Craft, February 13-16, 2009, and will be included in the Winter 2009 issue of NICHE magazine.

Winners will be announced at a special ceremony held during the February 2009 Buyers Market and featured in the Spring 2009 issue of NICHE magazine.

Go to www.AmericanCraft.com for full details on the 2009 NICHE Awards competition. To receive an application form by mail, contact melissab@rosengrp.com.

I strongly suggest that all of you go and at least check out the website and previous entries. I was blown away by the creativity in all mediums.

I have also been in contact with Melissa about the rules. To enter you must be a student or a professional selling wholesale to galleries in the US. Since many of us sell to galleries but are not full time professionals or students, you are qualified to and should enter the professional category.
Additionally, the rules say to send in digital images that are 300dpi, 4x6. This would translate to 1200x1800 pixels.
